Water Quality

Water Quality TCNWAC

The Water Quality program at the Thad Cochran National Warmwater Aquaculture Center (NWAC) involves all aspects of water. This includes practical strategies for managing problematic water quality variables including ammonia and nitrites in grow-out ponds and managing phytoplankton populations to control off-flavor. The program also researches best management practices for fry pond fertilization to enhance phytoplankton and zooplankton populations to improve catfish fry growth and survival. Toxicology is also part of the program, looking at the toxicity of chemicals used in aquaculture and their effects on the target organisms, phytoplankton and zooplankton populations and the fish.
